Bahad 1: Inside the Israeli Army Officer's Course

Synopsis

For the first time ever, the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) has allowed a fully fledged docu-reality series to be filmed inside its most prestigious training camp: BHD1, where every male and female army officer gets their commission after long weeks of training and practice. Deep in the Negev desert, they spend six months in and around the mythological army base, and those who are good enough will get their lieutenants rank and return to their units as commissioned officers.

We follow ten of them: coming from all walks of life, city boys and sons of farmers, original Israeli "Sabre" and newcomers who immigrated from Russia, the UK and other countries, even Arabs. We get the perspectives of the cadets as well as the insights of their commanders. We are with them as they navigate, in couples and alone; as they practice taking over an enemy stronghold, pass through landmine fields and operate their weapons and armory.

This is the Crème de la Crème of Israel's army: an army that was considered to be the best in the Middle East and one of the best in the world, but couldn't beat Hezbollah's militants in summer 2006. The IDF is now in the midst of rebuilding and reshaping, and at the same time it is on a high alert for the next war, which according to local experts is inevitable and may begin any day now.
